will not be able to settle any monetary transactions in Myanmar. Please be
advised that USD cash is commonly accepted. We would like to suggest you
to bring US$ notes in small

The Myanmar currency is Kyat, there are private money changer counters in Yangon,
Mandalay, Inle lake and Bagan but the “market” rate is fluctuate quite a lot at
times. Formally, Travellers checks in American Express, Visa, Bank of Tokyo,
Citi Corporation, Bank of America, National Westminster bank, First National
bank and Swiss bankers are accepted at the Myanmar Foreign Trade Bank (MFTB)

Express, Visa, and Diners Club can also be used. Master Card is not accepted in
Myanmar today (either credit card or travellers check). Checks can be cashed at
the MFTB branch at the airport or downtown. The easiest way is to bring cash
(US$). Only United States Dollar and British Pounds are converted to local
currency upon arrival. Most of currencies are not accepted in around Country.
Major hotels accept credit cards. As credit cards can be used in Yangon at one
bank and will not be useful on travelling out of Yangon and even in Yangon
Sunday and Saturday bank is closed.
Attention:
The private money exchange at Yangon airport
offer only 40 to 50% of market rate, advise to
wait and collect information first from your
guide or travel agency.

Formally, all valuable items brought into the country such as jewellery, cameras, mobile
phone, electrical equipment, etc. should be declared upon arrival and consequently
brought out of the country upon departure. A mobile phone is not allowed to
bring with you during your stay in Myanmar, so when you declare it on arrival, airport custom

handicrafts considered being antiques are

purchased with an official custom clearance receipt.
Climate and Weather
Myanmar has a tropical climate with three seasons; Hot Season - March to May -average
temperatures 25-40 C, Rainy Season - June to September- average temperatures
15-35 C. Cold Season - October to February - average temperatures
15 to 24 C. It
does rain only a little bit in central part of the country - Bagan and Mandalay.
In raining season at Yangon may need to brake
sightseeing for few hours due to heavy rain but not in Bagan, Mandalay
and Inle Lake areas. Yangon, Mandalay and Bagan – 27 to 40 C in summer and
20 to 35
C at cold season. Inle Lake area reach 20 – 30 C. Places in
mountain areas such as Kalaw, Pindaya and
Kanpetlet vary between 3 to 10 C at night
in cold season and 15 to 20 C in summer time.
What to Wear
Yangon, Bagan and Mandalay is warm weather for all year round that you
should bring the light and warm
weather clothing and around the Inle Lake area and in mountain
in higher
elevations, the temperature may down near freezing at night in the ‘winter’ from
November to February. So you need winter clothe for Kanpetlet-
Chin visit, Kalaw, Pindaya, Taunggyi, Kyaing
tong, Maymyo, Lashio and northern Myanmar trips. However, after a cold night,
temperature is up again and quite pleasant by mid day. Buddhist temples in
Myanmar, a suggestive or revealing clothing is never a good behaviour.
When visiting religious areas, a modest and
decent dress is required and easily
removable footwear is recommended.
Since Myanmar people
believe that the religious grounds
are donated to The Buddha and to holy
Buddhist monks, want to keep it in
clean and purity, therefore, become very
strong custom and tradition ``not to
wear'' shoes, sandal, thong or flip-flop and socks
within religious compounds. Hats and sunglasses will be
useful for tropical zone in Bagan & Mandalay and an umbrella or raincoat for the
rainy season June to September in Yangon and Inle Lake.
