Hpokkla Kyaun (Island) has a monastery at the top, home to only three monks. Good view of surrounding area. There is a fishing village or two on the island. Cross over the narrow inlet by boat.

White Sand Island ( Thay Phyu Kyaun ) is a tiny dot with about two trees, one km offshore, hire a boat to go there.


The Village is an interesting stroll or bike ride. The tourist restaurants and shops are all close to the main road. The main village road goes all the way to the estuary/river (U Do Chaung), the final part has houses built over muddy mangroves. Boat and propeller repairs are done down there. A school, a hospital, post office, monastery and Pagoda are the main things.

Restaurants -lots of seafood restaurants in the main village street. Mix of Myanmar/Rakhine/Chinese styles. Many vendors on the beach sell fried shrimp, fresh prawns etc. The first restaurant on the corner of the main road (Pearl restaurant) and the main village street is recommended.
