TRAVEL TIPS IN CAMBODIA

CLIMATE

Cambodia's climate is governed by two monsoons: the cool, dry northeastern monsoon from November to February, and the humid southwestern monsoon from May to October. Monsoon rains fall mostly in the afternoon, and account for 70 to 80% of annual rainfall. Cambodia can be visited throughout the year. However those planning to travel extensively by road should avoid August and September when the countryside roads may be impassable. Rainfall varies considerable from area to area.; Whereas the seaward slopes of the south-west highland (Kompong Som and Kampot Provinces) receive more than 5000+ mm of rain per annum, the central lowlands average only about 1,450mm.

Getting into Cambodia and traveling around

Bangkok is the easiest place to pick up a flight to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap. However, there are direct flights from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Vientiane, Pakse and Guangzhou. Although, the major airport is Pochentong, 7km (4mi) west of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap airport receive more international direct flights and charters. The land route will be vastly improved when the road linking Phnom Penh with the Thai border at Poipet is upgraded, the road to Siem Reap, Kratie, Battambang have been upgraded. A combination of boats and buses will eventually ferry you from Thailand's Trat Province to the coastal town of Krong Koh Kong. There are direct bus access with Saigon, boat to Chau Douc (Vietnam).
